TRA was set up in 1998, by the First President of its Protem committee, Mrs. Jagjeet Singh, amidst much teething problems such as getting a permanent Secretary for the Association. It however, was successful in organising Tropicana's first street party , that year. There was then lush greenery everywhere and no traffic congestion. However, a spate of robberies then convinced residents that having an effective security service is absolutely a must and TRA's work was cut out for it, as residents then felt a need to keep such a service in check with constant checks and balances provided by concerned residents through TRA. The first TRA President, En. Abu Bakar Awang Nga, over-saw TRA's transition from a pro-tem Association to a fully registered one in 1999.

The 2nd TRA President, Mr. Felix Gong, introduced and produced TRA's first community newsletter, named “Infoline”, which was distributed to approximately 800 residents then. Formal dialogues between TRA and TMS , with TRA representing the interests of residents here in Tropicana, commenced as did TRA Charity Golf Tournaments. Other activities included a Family day, a landscape contest and the introduction of TRA's first Logo, which gave TRA a distinctive identity .

The 3rd President, Dato' Stanley Isaacs, focused on improving the infrastructure in and around Tropicana and persuaded TMS to construct a jogging path from the Signature Entrance to Green Acres , which was newly completed then. Under his tenure, talks with MBPJ commenced on the possibility of constructing a second tunnel to ease traffic congestion which had built up to uncomfortable levels by then. The idea of expanding the bridge next to Sony was also mooted, as was the issue of road resurfacing in Tropicana where our roads were rapidly deteriorating in condition due to wear and tear.

The 4th President, Mr. Panjalingam Pillay, continued to focus on the infrastructure in and around Tropicana. Under his watch, court action was taken to stop the developers of the land adjacent to Tropicana from connecting their access roads onto Persiaran Tropicana in order to contain the rapidly worsening traffic congestion at the tunnel. Efforts were made to persuade MBPJ to do a macro study of the traffic flow in the vicinity of Tropicana and the larger surrounding areas and the impact new and proposed developments in the area will contribute to the traffic congestion around Tropicana which has built up significantly.

The 5th President, Mr. Mah Weng Kwai, continued dealing with the court action started by his predecessor. Negotiations commenced on the details of the construction of the second tunnel. Other social activities included a family oriented carnival, another street party and for the first time , a TRA Annual Dinner which hosted a fashion show by a renowned retailer, Zhang Toi with generous contributions of prizes from BMW which also hosted and organized the pre-dinner drink gathering for residents.

The 6th President, Mr Victor Lye, initiated the community Website for TRA - www.tropicanara.com, a hub for information, news and events in our community. A new TRA logo and image were developed, the Infoline newsletter became Tropicana Times magazine, the Exco was assigned additional portfolios to serve our members, and the membership structure was simplified. In a fresh TRA initiative, a Gated & Guarded Community Bill was written and presented to the Housing & Local Government Minister. We saw the completion of Tropicana Tunnel, the resurfacing of roads within Tropicana, and on the social side, the setting up of a community gourmet club.
